TEXTASY DJ set (Natural Sciences, Craigie Knowes, FTP)

DJ/producer Textasy, originally from Dallas, now living in Berlin, takes inspiration from early Miami Bass tracks. His productions bounce between genres the likes of Electro, Breakbeat Hardcore, Acid and hip hop—using familiar samples from each respective genre to create extremely dance worthy tracks.

We’re happy to reveal that 3 Ring Circus is back at Sensoria 2018.

This special occasion event showcases three amazing artists playing three shows, all on the same night at Sensoria – The 3 Ring Circus.

Joining RICHARD HAWLEY will be CHRIS DIFFORD and GRAHAM FELLOWS (aka John Shuttleworth / Jilted John).

How does it work?

Each artist acts as opener in a different venue, plays a 40 minute stripped down set then jumps into a waiting car which will speed them to the next location. Then the same again to the last venue.

So each artist becomes the opener, middle act and headline – and they say democracy doesn’t work!

And the audience stays put, maybe has another pint, has a chat in between whilst the artists break all speed restrictions in order to get to the next show.

The only catch is no one knows what order the artists will appear at which venue. So it’s pot luck. But the important thing is you get to see:

Richard Hawley,Chris Difford & Graham Fellows all on the same bill in the most intimate surroundings.

Each of the city venues (each seated) grant a slightly varying experience; allowing the audience to decide for themselves which setting they would like to see the artists in.

StarmoreBoss will be transforming the space at APG Works to host a sensory drinks tasting.

Across two themed rooms they will be showing you how your sense of smell, sight, taste and hearing can influence, confuse, deceive, heighten or change your opinion on the drinks they will be presenting. Through the interaction of their sensory drinks stations they will test to see if your senses can really work overtime.

Will you pass their tests? Or will your senses deceive you?

• There is a choice of two start times (6.45pm & 7.15pm) – please select when booking.

Barbara Wasiak was best known for her photographs of the Sheffield music scene in the 80’s, 90’s and beyond.  Her archive includes Cabaret Voltaire, Roisin Murphy, CHAKK, Hula, Tree Bound Story and many more. She was also an enthusiastic social documentary photographer, capturing the grit and humour of Sheffield life.  Her archive also includes personal and collaborative projects in which she cast a keen eye upon social, political and cultural issues. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to experience the diverse work of Barbara Wasiak and discover, or revisit, the unique context in which Sheffield’s music scene flourished.

Special presentation of the new documentary that covers both the dazzle and the dark side of the hedonistic1970s nightclub.

Studio 54 was the epicentre of 70s hedonism – a place that not only redefined the nightclub, but also came to symbolise an entire era. Its co-owners, Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell, two friends from Brooklyn, seemed to come out of nowhere to suddenly preside over a new kind of New York society. Now, 39 years after the velvet rope was first slung across the club’s hallowed threshold, this feature documentary tells the real story behind the greatest club of all time.

Sensoria kicks off early this year with a special open air screening of the restored Yellow Submarine, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ classic psychedelic animation that sees the Fab Four set out to save the music-loving inhabitants of Pepperland

When it was first released in 1968 at the height of the pop psychedelic era, the Beatles’ animated feature Yellow Submarine was immediately hailed by audiences and critics alike as another Fab Four masterpiece.

Saturated with the group’s trademark humour and personality and propelled by classic Beatles songs, including the title Lennon-McCartney song as well as “Eleanor Rigby,” “WhenI’m Sixty-Four” and “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”, Yellow Submarine was, and is, a pioneering, surreal and visually stunning animated feature.

CONNY PLANK: THE POTENTIAL OF NOISE

Konrad “Conny” Plank is undoubtedly one of the most innovative sound designers of his time. The recordings realized in his sound studio near Cologne between the 60s and 80s, revolutionized the music world. He was the pioneer of “Kraut-rock”, “neue deutsche welle” and paved the way for the revolutions of electronic and pop music respectively.

Plank takes us on a personal journey behind the scenes, getting to know his late father Conny Plank, through music history, via a soundtrack that has influenced millions over three decades.

Bands and artists who were fathered by the sound wizard (mostly before they became world famous) all agree that their careers would have been different without the talents of Conny Plank; David A. Stewart (Eurythmics), Annette Humpe, Michael Rother (Neu!), Les Rita Mitsoukou, Daniel Miller (Founder of Mute Records), Whodini, Scorpions, Midge Ure (Ultravox), Karl Hyde (Underworld), DAF and Gianna Nannini are just some of those featured on screen.

Conny Plank died much too young, aged 47. For his wife, the actress Christa Fast, and his 13 year old son Stephan, he left behind a world renowned sound studio. This is a story that begins 25 years on, with Stephan embarking on a journey to rediscover his father’s impact and his importance in music history. Because of the family connection, this film brings an unusually intimate and emotional insight to the artists and their work with Conny Plank, and all that defines music production.

Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and his wife Etheline (Anjelica Huston) had three children — Chas (Ben Stiller), Richie (Luke Wilson) and Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow). The Tenenbaums were a family of geniuses — geniuses that left home and separated from the family as soon as possible. Chas started buying real estate in his early teens and seemed to have an almost preternatural understanding of international finance. Margot was a playwright and received a Braverman Grant of $50,000 in the ninth grade. Richie was a junior champion tennis player and won the U.S. Nationals three years in a row. Virtually all memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbuams was subsequently erased by two decades of betrayal, failure, and disaster. Most of this was generally considered to be their father’s fault. The Royal Tenenbaums details the story of the family’s sudden, unexpected winter reunion.
