Beautiful Things is a sonically stunning journey into our obsessive consumption. The many objects we accumulate and we believe to be essential begin their production journey in silent secluded industrial and scientific sites. The film describes the hidden mechanical liturgy within four different remote locations where bordeline men work in complete isolation without any interference from the outside world. These men trigger, unconsciously, the long chain of creation, transport, commercialization and destruction of the objects feeding our bulimic lifestyle. They are monks inside temples of steel and concrete. They repeat the same liturgy every day. And we don’t even know that they exist.

Northern premiere screening. Launched in Denver in 1975, founders Jim Nash & Dannie Flesher moved their small independent record shop, Wax Trax! Records, to Chicago in 1978 which quickly became a Mecca for fans looking for international New Wave, Punk Rock and Experimental music scenes that were being brought into the US for the first time. Wax Trax! then branched out into a quasi-legitimate record label. The release of Cold Life by Ministry set the stage for Wax Trax! to become America’s pre-eminent experimental label of the 1980’s and 1990’s.

We’re pleased to present the very first screening of a new feature film by Sheffield film company Slackjaw, a throwback to classic children’s adventure films but harnessing a modern aesthetic.
Without wanting to give away too much of the story away, be prepared for an emotional journey into what it means to be siblings, a tale that includes donkeys, trains and some of the best landscapes northern England has to offer.
Join many of the cast and crew for what will be a truly special atmosphere – a celebration of the Yorkshire region, Whitby and Yorkshire culture.
The film stars Mark Addy, Tara Fitzgerald and recent BAFTA winner Molly Windsor.
