As Devo complete their 50th anniversary farewell tour in 2023, we present Sheffield-based WE ARE NOT DEVO, the UK’s only tribute act for the band.
Performing choice cuts of gonzo mutato classics from throughout the career of Akron, OHIO’s finest sons; a labour of love and sincerity brings the message of Devolution to the good spuds of the UK.
Suitable for ages 11+. Please note there may be adult language used in this music set.
This event has one music act, no support and will start and finish promptly.
- This is a SynthFest UK follow-on event with discounted tickets for attendees.
Access Information
Wheelchair access is via the accessible entrance off Shearwood Road (to the left-hand side of the theatre). This access leads directly into the auditorium. There is an accessible toilet at this level to the right of the auditorium.
Access to the Drama Studio front entrance is from street level up a flight of eleven stone steps to the forecourt followed by an additional four steps to the front doors. There are handrails to both sides of the sets of steps and corduroy tactile paving to assist those with visual impairment.
There is limited on-street parking on Shearwood Road, though no disabled spaces. There is a Q-Parks car park on Durham Road that has some spaces for blue badge holders.

Walk-Up Ticket – £20 on the day.

Pizza Hotline‘s 2022 album ‘Level Select’ quickly gained a cult status online, drawing influence from drum’n’bass music featured in 90s and 2000s videogame soundtracks – N64, PS1, PS2, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast.
Featured in SEGA Powered Magazine, his album is a cinematic soundscape that gives a new life to a beloved music genre, with a heavy loving dose of 1990s/2000s-era videogame music influences – all fresh but with a subtle nostalgia.
Chipzel
Chipzel is a BAFTA-nominated, award-winning composer known for her idiosyncratic original work producing the scores to videogames including Super Hexagon, Dicey Dungeons and Spectra.
A recognised pioneer of the Chiptune scene, Chipzel’s prolific musical career has seen her feature on BBC Sounds and travel the world – including supporting tour dates for Sheffield band 65daysofstatic – bringing her acclaimed sound to audiences across the globe.

- The ever-popular SCORING CONTEST returns. This panel session offers a unique challenge each year. Composers can submit their music to a specially selected film clip, a shortlist is then ‘critiqued’ by a panel of experts on the day – and a winner is voted by both the panel and the audience. This year sees a UK-Vietnam bilateral challenge, delegates can choose from a Vietnamese film clip OR a Sheffield-based archive film clip. Our panel of industry experts will critique submissions on the day – featuring Chi Chi Nwakodo (Sony Music Publishing), Sophy Purnell (The Composerworks), Siân Rogers (Siren) and Sam Lenthall (Universal). FAIR SCORE The Musicians’ Union and the Ivors Academy work in partnership on the Fair Score campaign, which aims to improve the media commissioning landscape – dealing with fees, rights, royalties, transparency and all parts of the process from pitching onwards.
For this session, media composers will talk through their career highs and lows, and how they navigate the industry and negotiate fair and informed deals. Who needs an agent? How much are royalties really worth? Where does the next commission come from? Whilst deals and processes often appear opaque, this discussion will offer insight on what really goes on, and how improvements can be made for the benefit of individual composers and the wider industry.
- Musicians’ Union Broadcast & Recording Roadshow. The MU’s Recording & Broadcasting team will be hosting their event at SensoriaPro, discussing everything you need to know about working as a recording musician, and how to earn a living doing so. The MU team will be on hand to help you to understand your rights as a musician, including delving into all things copyright, and knowing how to protect them. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions on the day and speak to the team one-to-one.
- PRS for Music Get Paid Guide session. Take control of your music data. Find out how to register songs correctly so you don’t miss out on any royalties. The Get Paid Guide is a partnership between PRS for Music, The Ivors Academy, the Music Publishers Association (MPA), and the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). It is aimed at demystifying metadata and helping music makers to better organise their music data and royalties.
- There will be one-to-one SPEED MENTORING with industry experts.

My Brutal Life is a new exhibition, housed in Sheffield’s iconic Moore Street Electricity Substation.
The exhibition features work by Bill Stephenson, Mick Jones, Mandy Payne, Martin Dust, Scott Amoeba, Richard Davis, Jen Orpin, Alun Cocks, Human Studio, Sean Madner, Helen Angell, The Black Dog.
The catalogue foreword is by Stephen Mallinder.
We are collecting for Sheffield Children’s Hospital & Weston Park Cancer Charity donations.
* Please note the exhibition entrance is on the corner of Moore Street and Headford Street.
Access to the exhibition area is via stairs with 126 steps. There is no lift. Unfortunately due to the nature of the building, this exhibition is unsuitable for those with limited mobility or very young children. (The Black Dog Live AV event at the Drama Studio is accessible for wheelchair users).
